Heupel Returns to Oklahoma with Tennessee

Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel will make an emotional return to Oklahoma this weekend as his team faces the Sooners in Norman. Heupel, a former quarterback for Oklahoma, led the Sooners to a national championship in 2000 and is revered by fans for his role in the program’s success. However, his return as an opposing coach adds a layer of tension to the matchup, as Oklahoma will face its former hero in a highly anticipated game.

Heupel’s time at Oklahoma came to a controversial end in 2014 when he was dismissed as the team’s offensive coordinator, a decision that left a bitter taste for some fans. Now, as head coach of Tennessee, Heupel has revived the Volunteers’ football program, turning them into one of the SEC’s rising powers. His offense, known for its high tempo and explosive plays, has drawn comparisons to the scheme he ran at Oklahoma as a player and coach.
